About the Author
Edward R. Beauchamp is Professor Emeritus of Historical and Comparative Studies in Education at the University of Hawaii, where he taught from 1969 to 2001. He has authored and edited numerous volumes, including Japanese Education
Since 1945, Dimensions of Contemporary Japan, Richard Henry Brunton: Schoolmaster to an Empire, Japanese Education: A Source Book, (with Akira Sakai) and Foreign Employees in 19th-Century Japan.
