About the Author
Jeffrey A. Kottler is one of the most prolific authors in the fields of counseling, psychotherapy, and education, having written more than 90 books about a wide range of subjects. He has authored a dozen texts for counselors and therapists that are used in universities around the world and a dozen books each for practicing therapists and educators. Some of his most highly regarded works include Creative Breakthroughs in Therapy, The Mummy at the Dining Room Table: Eminent Therapists Reveal Their Most Unusual Cases and What They Teach Us About Human Behavior, Bad Therapy, The Client Who Changed Me, Divine Madness, Change: What Leads to Personal Transformation, Stories We ve Heard, Stories We ve Told: Life-Changing Narratives in Therapy and Everyday Life, and Therapy Over 50. He has been an educator for 40 years, having worked as a teacher, counselor, and therapist in preschool, middle school, mental health center, crisis center, nongovernmental organization, university, community college, private practice, and disaster relief settings. A must-have for anyone into counseling / psychology!

This is a graduate-level book, but I was lucky to be able to take a wonderful seminar-style class as an undergraduate majoring in Psychology. I cannot stress how happy I am that my instructor has chosen THIS book for the class, it is a perfect choice for anyone interested in Mental Health Counseling or general Psychology fields. I think this book is a must-read, whether it is your first book of its kind, or whether you're a practicing mental health professional (I feel that it is good to keep it on hand for easy reference). It is very well organized and general key ideas are presented well, often intertwined with personal life examples from the authors, which definitely makes it that much more interesting to read (compared to some text books...and because of the great and accessible way this is written, I wouldn't even wish to refer to it as a text book, even though it is).
Reading this book has solidified my interest in the subject and now that I am a graduate after five years of college, I can safely state that this book was my favorite one to read of all. I guess best thing about it is that it will help you become a better person even if you will not end up pursuing a profession as a counselor or any other psych related job. Needless to say, I will be keeping it for years to come! :)
