An Inspiration

Dorothy Ungerleider's book "Educational Therapy in Action: Behind and Beyond the Office Door", in which the reader gets an insight into the fascinating and complex world of "Educational Therapy", is truly an inspiration. For students with learning differences and their families who are struggling to cope with everyday demands of school and life, Ungerleider offers hope. This true story about Nora is very compelling and heart-warming as it takes the reader through the struggles of this young woman's life and how her educational therapist helps her overcome them to become a self-reliant and independent young woman. The book also serves as a practical guide for educational therapists and mental health professionals with plenty of explanatory notes and suggestions on the side. To an aspiring therapist, it re-affirms the faith that one person can make a difference in the life of someone with learning disabilities. This book is a must-read for all educational and therapeutic professionals interacting with persons with learning disabilities, and is a source of inspiration to people from all walks of life.

An Educational Thriller

This true story reads like a fiction thriller as you discover the relationship and trust that develops between the educational therapist and her 17 year old student, Nora. How the therapist works with Nora's disabilites and defenses is both heart warming and remarkable. The compelling vignettes of them working together thru the years is certainly "educational therapy in action." You don't have to be an educator to benefit from this wonderful journey "behind and beyond the office door."
