It surveys the history of African Americans, emphasizing how events shaped beliefs and faith and helped form denominations, and how religion impacted movements and events. Beginning with the advent of Portuguese slave-raiding parties in the 1400s and ending with the Million Man March and comments on African American churches today, the book takes in an enormous range of history and presents it in a very readable, comprehensible fashion. Selections from historical sermons and speeches give voice to some of the people who shaped and mirrored movements. Powerful Panorama
