About the Author

Carolyn Callahan (PhD University of Connecticut) is Commonwealth Professor of Education at the University of Virginia. She has been a principal investigator on projects of the National Research Center on the Gifted and Talented for the past 19 years. She has published more than 180 refereed articles and 50 book chapters across a broad range of topics on gifted education. She is a Past-President of The Association for the Gifted and the National Association for Gifted Children. She is currently Editor of Gifted Child Quarterly.

Holly Hertberg Davis (PhD University of Virginia) is an educational consultant specializing in differentiation of instruction, advanced curriculum, and professional development. She is a former faculty member at the University of Virginia's Curry School of Education, where she taught courses in the education of the gifted and was a principal investigator for the National Research Center on the Gifted and Talented. She has written and presented extensively on her primary research interests: differentiation of instruction, staff development, and equity in Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses.

This book is a must-read for anyone interested in understanding a feminist anti-pornography perspective. It is careful, responsible, and evenhanded while also engaging moral and political passion about this very important subject. The authors effectively describe pro-pornography positions that some feminists have supported, and respond to these views with careful arguments that, to my mind, settle the issue firmly for the anti-pornography side. [...] Gail Dines' chapter on the growth of the porn business, beginning with Playboy, is alone worth the price of admission. Even (or especially) if you don't agree with feminist anti-porn politics, you should read this book.

Honesty About Pornography

As a student of Gail Dines, this book was part of the required reading. What an eye opener! The book gives an honest account and analyzation of the pornography industry, how it keeps the status of women below men, and the effects of it on the women who are in the industry. It gives valid responses for the arguments that pornograpy is part of free speech and is a great opportunity for women to earn a lot of money and boost their career. The information is brutally honest and will never leave you. I highly recommend it.

For social scientists and their students who study migration, this is an excellent resource. It covers topics by discipline and in general does so in a comprehensive way. An essay that really looks at multidisciplinary use of these models would have been nice, but otherwise an great resource.
